The Bloomington Playwrights Project is committed to providing a healthy and safe environment for our artists and audiences, and we recognize that the recent outbreak of the coronavirus (COVID-19) raises concerns for many.
Over the course of the last days we consulted with all parts of the BPP family, from audience, to board members, to the artists working hard on the upcoming production.
After great discussion and listening to those we serve, we have made the decision to postpone the upcoming production of The Absentee, originally scheduled to run March 27-April 11. It will now run May 1st – May 9th. Additionally, we have made the decision to cancel our final show of the 19-20 season The Burdens, scheduled to run May 8-23. In an effort to still support the writer of new work, a staged reading of The Burdens will be held May 15th.
The old theatre adage is usually “The show must go on!” This decision was not an easy one, but we strongly believe that this course of action is the best way to support our artists, their safety, and the safety of our audience that means the world to us.
If you have tickets already we will be contacting each of you to exchange your reservation for another performance of The Absentee or The Burdens (reading). If for any reason you cannot attend the new dates, you may request a refund or turn your unused tickets and subscriptions into a tax-deductible donation.
This is a very difficult time for all theaters, both artistically and financially. Thank you so much for your support of the BPP and your understanding during this pandemic.
